Here are our top 5 Pubs in North Norfolk
1. The Globe - Wells-next-the-Sea
It would be easy to pass through Wells-next-the-Sea and miss the leafy Georgian Square called the Buttlands at the top of Staithe Street. To miss it would be to miss out on an oasis of calm and an ideal watering hole for relaxing away from the bustling sea front.
The Globe hosts a newly refurbished interior and a brand new menu that celebrates locally sourced ingredients from land and sea. We vote this the best place to sit and ponder the beautiful houses around the square as you enjoy a sundowner and reflect on your day’s adventures.
2. Stiffkey Red Lion - Stiffkey
If you fancy a long stroll along the coast from Wells with a welcoming watering hole at the end this is the pub for you. Just 4 Miles up the coast from The Normans, Stiffkey Red Lion is a comfy laid back pub, but don’t be fooled this is a food lovers haven, winning a Diners Choice award from Open table in 2023.
Serving what they call ‘good honest food’ imagine all your favourites re imagined with the best locally sourced ingredients. We vote this the cosiest pub for foodies who fancy something a tiny bit different that won’t disappoint!
3. Carpenters Arms - Wighton
Just 3 miles by car from Wells-next-the-Sea, The Carpenters Arms is a little countryside gem of a pub. Mixing ‘modern day comfort and original features,’ this pub welcomes you from the moment you arrive.
If you fancy earning your dinner why not take the 3 mile (just over an hour, maybe less if you’re hungry,) stroll from Wells, which offers fab views over the countryside. Starting up by Alderman Peel High School the walk takes you along the disused railway track all the way to the pub. If you don’t fancy walking back after few pints, just a 3 minute walk from the pub is the bus stop where you can catch a bus back every hour. Whether a roast on a wintery day or a relax in the tranquil pub garden we vote this our favourite venue for a great meal that offers all your favourite pub grub options done to perfection using locally sourced fayre.
4. The Hero - Burnham Overy Staithe
Whether you are off on a retail therapy trip to Burnham Market or heading back from a stroll on the spit at Brancaster Staithe this is a watering hole not to be missed. Laid back and lively you will never find it sleepy. Celebrating a selection of craft beers wines and spirits alongside the fabulous menu which includes a pie of the day, fish stew and chickpea curry. (If you have a burger lover in your team this is the pub for you!) We vote this pub best for a busy vibe, great food and coast road pitstop.
5. The Anchor - Morston
Serving ‘nautical nibbles’ such as cockle popcorn and first rate fish and chips accompanied by a selection of homemade sauces, The Anchor is a cosy coastal pub with flagstone floor and low ceilings which welcomes you in the moment you arrive.
Set on the coast road 15minutes drive from Wells-next-the-Sea The Anchor is set just across the road from Morston Quay and marshes making it great for a short stroll before or after your meal. If you fancy a Seal Trip and boat ride out to Blakeney Point during your stay team it with a meal here. You can book a trip via Beans Boats(https://beansboattrips.co.uk/) or Temples ( https://www.sealtrips.co.uk/. ) We vote this a great pub for sea life and bird lovers who want to team nature and a hearty meal.
